MMUSE 175 Symphonic Band

BEST for incoming freshmen

Meets Mon/Wed 12:45-2:10 pm

Generally this ensemble is made up of “college age” students 18-24

Wind Ensemble Instrumentation

Music non-majors and majors

Symphonic Band fulfills the music major AA degree ensemble requirement

Prior experience in band/wind ensembles


MMUSE 181 Jazz Band

BEST for incoming freshmen

Meets Tues/Thurs 12:45-2:10 pm

Generally this ensemble is made up of “college age” students 18-24

Big band jazz instrumentation (saxophones, trombones, trumpets + rhythm section)

Prior experience in jazz band

MMUSE 171 Community Concert Band

Meets Wednesday evenings 6:30 to 9:30 pm.

Ages 18 and up

Wind Ensemble Instrumentation

Primarily intended for community members

Prior experience in band/wind ensembles

All MJC bands are for music majors and non-majors alike. Prerequisites include the ability to read music notation and prior experience in performing ensembles. See the descriptions for each ensemble’s instrumentation.

If you’d like to play in the MJC bands, you simply need to apply to the college to get your student ID, then register for any of the band offerings.

Fall classes begin August 25, 2025. Players must register for each ensemble to participate. Registration includes applying to the college and registering for each ensemble.
